In this position, you will have the opportunity to gain experience within the philanthropic sector. You will develop career-relevant skills including legal research and analysis, writing, and drafting of legal documents.

Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies (MACP) supports efforts to enhance quality of life and prevent and relieve suffering of children, families, and seniors; preserve and promote the environment and the arts; and encourage the humane treatment of animals.
The internship will primarily provide support for the MACP legal team. You will have the opportunity to develop relevant skills including legal research and analysis, writing, and drafting of legal documents. You will work collaboratively with the team of four attorneys and a paralegal. As the legal intern, you will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of legal work touching numerous aspects of the organization, while gaining exposure to work in an in-house setting and the philanthropic sector. This role will be approximately 36 hours per week for 10-12 weeks in the summer of 2022.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist legal team members with review and drafting of contracts and other legal documents
Perform research and analysis in a variety of legal areas relevant to a nonprofit organization, including but not limited to nonprofit law, labor and employment, and international regulations
Support grantmaking due diligence and grant-related legal documentation
Attend meetings with cross-functional staff to observe and/or support provision of legal advice
Assist with various other legal matters and/or projects as directed
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Current 1L or 2L law school student at an accredited law school; minimum of one year of law school completed prior to internship start date
Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with other team members and staff
