My client is a leading online retailer. They are rapidly growing company with over 40+ stores. Located in Pasadena, California, they are the leading manufacturers of brand name consumer products to establish, develop and operate online stores and marketplaces.
 
We are looking for a backend software developer engineer who can learn our systems and wants to help them grow their business using Java and Ruby. This position requires excellent object-oriented design and programming skills, including a strong working knowledge of good programming practices.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in technical needs for the development and growth of our internal systems.
  • Assist with team projects to review, develop, and maximize the efficiency and scalability of systems in an enterprise environment.
  • Work with business clients to develop requirements and tools that enhance our productivity via automation.
  • Work with our DBA to help expand our reporting and data gathering capabilities.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of new and emerging technologies using various programming languages.
  • Recommend operational efficiencies, eliminate duplicate work efforts and remove unnecessary complexities by creating and implementing new procedures and workflows.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent engineering degree
  • 1 -3 years experience in Java. Ruby experience a big plus.
  • SQL (Postgres / MySQL) and/or NoSQL (MongoDB) databases
  • REST, XML/XSD and web services
  • Familiar with development on Mac OS X, Unix/Linux
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies
  • Familiar with best practices in OOD and design patterns
  • Ability and desire to work as part of a team and also cross-functionally with other teams 
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and business users 
  • Can-Do attitude with a willingness to do what it takes to get things accomplished.
  • Familiarity with eBay, Amazon, NewEgg, Sears, or Buy.com APIs and integrations
  • Willingness to learn Ruby and other languages
  • XHTML, CSS, Javascript (JQuery, PrototypeJS)
  • Prior experience in a DBA reporting capacity
  • ERP development experience a plus
